St Mary’s welcomes children into the life of the church. On Sunday morning, at 10.30am while the church service is taking place, we provide an exciting and varied programme of activities and learning about the bible, suitable for children of all ages, abilities and personalities. We welcome all newcomers and visitors.
- Crèche is available up to age 3
- Scramblers is our group for children aged 3-7
- Explorers is our group for children aged 8-10
- Pathfinders is our group for older children aged 11+
Where: We meet in the tiled area in the Church Centre. Please ask one of the stewards if you are unsure of where we are. On your first visit, parents/carers are asked to register their children with the team leader.
When: We meet at 10.30am every Sunday morning throughout the school year, except on the third Sunday of each month when children and adults are together in the church for our Worship-For-All service. If in doubt, please ask a steward.
In preparation for major festivals, such as Christmas, all the children across the whole age range may spend some time together for singing practice. Children usually participate in some way in festival services.
On reaching age 14, we encourage the children to become young leaders if that is their gift. At present we have four young people helping out with some of the other Sunday groups. We are always looking out for leaders – so if you have a sense of humour, a love for God, and understand why teenagers never tidy their bedrooms, come and talk to us.
On a practical note: In the case of younger children: Please ensure your child visits the toilet before they come into the group, and please let any member of our team know, in confidence, of any issues which may affect your child’s enjoyment of the group. You are welcome to remain with your child if they need you, but we would always encourage you to go into the church service while we care for your young one.
When the children start in their group, please drop your child off no more than ten minutes before the session starts. Younger children must be collected by their parent/carer at the end of the session, and we ask that you come promptly at the end of the church service.
On the first Sunday of every month, there is a service of Holy Communion in the church. Towards the end of that service, the children will re-join you in church, so that the whole family can share in this together. For practical purposes, it would be helpful if you could ensure that either your child or the team knows where in church you will be sitting.
Our team: We love the Lord and can testify to his grace to us through Jesus Christ. All leaders and helpers are subject to CRB clearance. We meet regularly as a team, led by Cath da Costa our Children & Families Worker, to pray and plan together.
